Check out this fresh-outta-Ohio mixtape from legendary producer/rapper/musician Harper Rush. Tastes like gas station kratom and chilled lakeshore air.
Harper Rush is always on some fresh shit, so it's only appropriate we highlight his new mixtape, "GAMBLER." He continues to top himself with every new release, and GAMBLER is no exception. This is his first non-instrumental album to be released after his move from upstate New York to Ohio.. and it's even more of what we love about Mr. Rush's work: surreal introspective lyricism, otherworldly atmospheric beats, and impeccable production.
As always, Harper's layering of sounds are just pure bliss. The basslines on this thing will blow your brains out. The reverbed-out pads will have you floating. Combined with his songwriting, he continues to capture the loneliness of the modern world with a whole lot of beauty and subtlety.
Slug's picks are "reluctant" and "minus money," but it's very hard to pick favorites. This tape only clocks a runtime of ~11 minutes, so take the time to listen to the whole thing:
We recommend GAMBLER for fans of underground rap affiliates like Shed Theory and Drain Gang. Aside from Bandcamp, GAMBLER is also streaming on all major platforms. Make sure you check out Harper's website, buy his new sample pack, and follow him on Instagram.
