After sitting dormant for over a year, and being in development hell for even longer, HOUDINI Magazine's experimental 'streaming service' is reborn with a complete overhaul. This is the People's Tubi.
No ads, especially not the corporate ones. No accounts. No cookies. No tracking. No bullshit.
Everything is pulled from archive.org, we host nothing. This is pirate radio in the age of streaming. Being sourced from archive.org means VHS rips, tape noise, live broadcasts, esoteric flicks and kino dug deep from the crates. The texture of the medium becomes part of the service's flavor. It's also how we're able to do a no-budget streaming service. It's less Netflix and more public assess TV, and that's part of the point. The noise, the CRT effect, the fine tuning of colors, saturation, contrast, blur, these all intentionally lean into the limitations, in the way a only a project designed by the HOUDINI Collective could.
Channels currently curated by Erik Houdini, Mindape, Salty P Slug. Curation will be a community effort. We're working on a program to make submitting and curating your own channels as easy as possible. The bottleneck: Archive.org only has so much, even in terms of actual "archival" content. There's more Parenti lectures on YouTube than archive, there's a whole lot of right wing content on archive.org but less left content. That means the more contributions archive.org gets, the more we can grow, because we all know how quickly things can disappear from YouTube. This also means submitting 'original content' is in the pipeline. Archive your work, send us the links, and we'll put it on the upcoming Channel 00. This is a living project!
