Here are five of Salty P. Slug's "lost" top tracks from the summer of 2025. Spread it on!!
Drums For The Lost - DJ Sofa
π LISTEN β’ DJ Sofa coming in hot out of Finland with some of the snappiest, mind-melting jungle you've heard this side of the 21st century. This track is a masterclass in drum break chopping. The use of a UK rave kinda stab throughout the whole thing is excellent, and damn if it doesn't get a buzz going deep inside your brain. This thing just steamrolls the hell out of you for almost six straight minutes. You'll definitely be back for seconds.
Venus - Los Pakines
π LISTEN β’ Venus is my favorite track from one of Analog Africa's newest releases, "Super Disco Pirata - De Tepito Para El Mundo 1965-1980." This song feels like a damn good time: the reverbed-out, plunky guitar riffs panning around the track will live in your head for days. The flamenco-esque strumming will have you on your feet. The percussive elements are infectious. I suggest reading the description of the record over on Bandcamp: it weaves an intriguing tale of legendary sonideros (mobile DJs) and their collections of exclusive, pirated records which were only played at street parties in Mexico City until they landed on this compilation.
Punch Yourself in the Face - Oscar Lindsey
π LISTEN β’ Oscar Lindsey is an up-and-coming DIYer out of Nashville who I've been keeping my eye on for a couple years. He has an insane gift for songwriting and melody crafting. I've not heard a better capture of the confusing loneliness and hedonism-tinged awkwardness you feel in your late teens and early twenties. Don't let the first measures of acoustic guitar fool you: "Punch Yourself in the Face" is a sultry, fuzzed-out, hard-hitting three minutes of bliss. You'll have the chorus melody in your head for the rest of your week, so savor it and then get listening to the rest of the goddamn album!
Macaroni Wit The Cheese - Papo2oo4, Subjxct 5, and DJ Lucas
π LISTEN β’ This song is my favorite track off Papo2oo4's new mixtape, Papaholic Vol. 1. Its unstoppable, clanging beat makes you wanna put a sledgehammer through a steel wall. We got the dream team of Northeast rappers here: Papo and DJ sit down to a homecooked meal (thank you chef Subjxct) and then proceed to CLEAN their fucking plates. DJ Lucas shines. He's running a 100 in his whip but he's so fashionably late!!! You won't regret listening to this.
Movie Night Cancelled (Domenique Dumon Dub Version) - Pool Boy
π LISTEN β’ This is an excellent dub of an already great track from Pool Boy's "All Inclusive" record they put out a few years ago. That record itself is a wonderful mishmash of chillout EDM with a distinctly French flavors that you should also listen to, but this remix is its standout. The groove will instantly transport your psyche an otherworldly, far-away beach where you'll find a hot babe at your side and an icy beverage in your hand.
